Tamworth Marsupial Park

The Marsupial Park is a native animal experience unlike any other in NSW, the 14-hectare park has free entry. Children can get close to kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos and emus, spot the species in the free-flight aviary and hand feed the Indian peacocks. Within the Marsupial Park is the community-built Adventure Playground which has two distinct areas: one for under-5s and another for over-5s. It encourages children to use their fine and gross motor-skills – and of course, their imagination. There are barbecue facilities and bathrooms.

Oxley Scenic Lookout

Oxley Scenic Lookout is a highlight of any visit to Tamworth. Follow Tamworth's jacaranda-lined White Street to the very top, where you'll reach this viewpoint. It's the best seat in the house as the sun goes down. The lookout, originally Oxley Park, is named in honour of John Oxley, Surveyor General and explorer, who passed through the Tamworth area in 1818. The Lookout is located at the top of White Street and is easily accessible by vehicle or a moderate hike will bring you to this excellent vantage spot. The views are almost 180 degrees and stretch for kilometres into the distance providing incredible views of both the city and Peel River Valley. The Lookout is surrounded by natural bushland and is the base camp for the Kamilaroi Walking Track, which winds its way through the bushland of Oxley Park linking the Botanic Garden, Marsupial Park, Oxley Lookout and Flagstaff Mountain over a distance of several kilometres. Some sections of the walking track are moderate however other sections are quite challenging. Facilities include public toilets and a picnic area with plenty of parking. Accessible from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. Please note - gates are locked at night.

Bicentennial Park, Tamworth

Designed with WOW FACTOR, Tamworth’s multi-million-dollar playground officially opened in December 2015. The park is the city’s first so-called “smart precinct” and boasts one of the biggest slides in the southern hemisphere.
The design includes our Net Plex climbing play system, Smart Play Motion and Little City Oslo units for the toddlers, a Double Arch Swing with Birds Nest Seat, Stand Up Spinners, Rubber Domes and Wooden totems adding additional sensory and tactile elements to the space.  Other play areas, a bike track and boardwalk, fitness circuit and flying fox create a space for everyone to enjoy, and enhanced lighting, ample parking and laser cut steel panel fencing have made it a very usable space for the community.
To complement the recreational fun, there is also a new cafe/restaurant which has been created through a Public Private Partnership – where there’s coffee, people will always stay longer!
